5th Grade, 2007 - 2008 This year in the 5th grade, we are going on a "road trip through America's past", as we go back in time to study American history. Students will write postcards from each "stop" on our trip, writing to loved ones about all they have learned and discovered about our country's history. In Language Arts, students will read historical fiction that connects with our studies in social studies. Presently, students are writing their own endings to the first piece of literature we read as a class called "Morning Girl" by Michael Dorris. Students are exploring what happened to the Taino people as Columbus and his men first "discovered" the native people's island.
