Focus: 6th Grade: Ancient Civilizations
           7th Grade: Medieval World History
           8th Grade: American History

In grades six and seven, world history and geography form the basis of our studies. While in sixth grade we will cover ancient civilizations such as Mesopotamia and that of the Egyptians, Greeks, Indians, and Chinese, in the seventh grade we will focus on medieval and early modern times. In both classes, students will be asked to consider how geography shapes culture, and what contributes to the rise and fall of civilizations. In eighth grade, U.S. history is our theme. The founding of the nation, the Constitution, and the transformation of the American political system are the main topics we will cover.

All students will work to keep up with current events. What’s happening in the world today will help to drive our discussions. We will emphasize making connections between the past, present, and future, and our own individual lives. Hands-on, interactive projects such as simulations, debates, mock trials, and community outreach are on our to-do list. As often as possible, we will integrate literature with our investigations of culture and government.
