English Language Arts
Teacher: Melissa Nestel

In the sixth, seventh and eighth grade English Language Arts classes, students will work to improve their proficiency in reading and writing, as well as their overall command of the English language.  To encourage a deeper understanding of texts, students will participate in a variety of activities, such as response writing, role playing, analyzing, and discussing, while exploring themes of community, identity, struggles, and friendship.  To bolster writing skills, students will study and practice different writing styles, including fictional and non-fictional narratives, summaries, reports, and essays.  Throughout the year, we will focus on the intricacies of the language itself (grammar and vocabulary, for example) while using English as a tool for effective communication and learning.
