Willow Creek Academy Classrooms Willow Creek Academy consists of three divisions: Primary, Intermediate and Upper Schools.
In the Primary Division, grades kindergarten through second grade, students are very busy learning the basics of reading, writing and math, plus all those important social skills of respect, kindness, and the ever important balance of independence and individual responsibility, combined with being part of a larger social group.
The Intermediate Division, grades three through five, consolidates the learning base that students acquired in their primary experience. Now, in addition to learning to read, they begin to read to learn. The same applies to writing, speaking and math activities. There is an ever increasing emphasis on expanding the classroom walls to include a variety of field trips, scientific investigations and presentation of portfolios and other examples of both individual and group work in spelling bees, science fairs, etc.
The Upper School, grades six through eighth, is all about providing Willow Creek students with a very solid base of academic, social and emotional experiences to insure a successful high school experience. For the first time, students experience having multiple teachers and no longer are confined to a self-contained classroom. Homerooms and subject matter teachers are a new thing. Electives in everything from chorus to Spanish to Law and Order allow these rapidly growing students to experience a taste of what their ever expanding world has to offer them.
In keeping with the WCA Charter Document, all students have opportunities in the visual arts, music, physical education and environmental studies. Each of these studies is integrated with the classroom curriculum. For example, in fifth grade where students study Native American Cultures, they also do sand paintings in art.
Throughout the entire school, the involvement of parents in various volunteer positions insures a total school community. Parents and community members founded Willow Creek Academy, and they continue to play an important role it the school's growth and maturation.
