After School Explorers
Steve Wiig -- After School Program Director
Mr. Steve was born & raised in Upper Michigan near Lake Superior. He is the oldest of four children and both of his parents (and most of his aunts and uncles) were school teachers. He was voted “Most Artistic” of his graduating high school class. While studying the arts and psychology at Northern Michigan University, he was a disc jockey at the college radio station and artist at the local comic book store before moving to Minnesota where he met his future wife and began working in the music industry. After first coming to the Bay Area in the mid-1990s for projects at the legendary lant Recording Studio in Sausalito, Steven and his wife Patricia later settled here upon getting married in 2001. They spent many years traveling the world before becoming parents in 2006.
When their son Magnus started Kindergarten at Willow Creek Academy in 2011, Steve became more involved on the campus, in the classroom and at Little League baseball. For several years he led his popular after school Drawing Class, taught drum lessons (along with some guitar) and more recently Drama. He continues to be involved in both music and film production and is also a member of the Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists union. In 2015, he graduated from the Sausalito Police Department’s Citizen’s Police Academy and in 2018, was awarded Manager of the Year by Sausalito Marin City Little League.
With his many years of experience at Willow Creek and familiarity with the after-school program, Steve enthusiastically accepted the role After-School Program Director and strives to help its Explorers continue to evolve, thrive and grow.
